Q. What is 5G?
A. 5G is the 5th generation of cellular technologies as standardized by the 3GPP. Its aggressive goals are to address the various issues that have developed due to the wild popularity of 4G LTE, including the need for higher bandwidth, lower latency, and higher connection density.
Q. How fast is 5G?
A. 5G performance will be extremely fast when compared to current wired and wireless technologies. 5G is expected to be 10-100 times faster than 4G depending on the implementation by a given mobile network operator (MNO). The current speed record for 5G is 32 Gbps in laboratory conditions.
Q. When is 5G available?
A. 5G will be available as initial launches in the second half of 2018 in the US, with expanded deployments in 2019 and broad availability in 2020.
Q. 4G vs 5G
A. 5G will not replace 4G, in fact, they will work together for the foreseeable future. With technology such as LTE Advanced Pro, customers don’t have to wait for 5G in order to get many of the benefits. Customers can continue to use services in 4G LTE, then plug in 5G when and where it is available.
5G will differentiate itself by delivering various improvements:
